Question?: Autism Signs In 15 Month Old

Donna asks…

Is speech impairment an essential symptom/sign of autism?

Most autistic children do not speak normally. What are the other symptoms of autism?

admin answers:

Yes. Autism is typically recognized between 15 – 24 months old. Though it may not be diagnosed until much later. In those 9 months a child with Autism will begin displaying signs that may indicate and delay or regression. The earliest signs can come in the first year. A child that isn’t smiling when they are suppose to and tip-toe walking are common early signs. The first major signs are a delay in communication or a regression in communication. Parents of children with Autism usually describe either A. Their child didn’t start talking “on time” ( same time as peers) or that they stopped saying words they usually said before.(regressed) . The delay in communication is usually paired with a sense of confusion or disconnect the child may have with peers or siblings. Example not responding when name is called, not making eye contact, unable to follow simple instructions, parallel playing with peers, not engaging in conversations with peers. Because of the lack of speech and communication the child may become frustrated and display tantrum behavior. Tantrums usually take the place of words early on in children with Autism. Behavior can also be due to the fact that the child is very particular with how they expect things to be or happen. They can have rigid routines and not like transitioning. These are also sensory issues that most children with Autism have. Other sensory issues include sensitivity to loud sounds, touch and textures. There are many other signs but these are the typical first major indicators. There are several levels of Autism the earlier Autism is recognized and therapy begins the better the outcome.

Closing the Door on the Autism Epidemic – Early Prediction and Successful Intervention Now Possible

Closing the Door on the Autism Epidemic

In order to rid this nation and the world of autism we must first know the cause for these neurological disorders. With the cause understood, we can predict which individuals will be at the highest risk for developing the symptoms of autism. This test covers the entire age range as individuals have been known to incur these risk factors at any age. The prediction of autism is now possible by completing a simple survey. This survey is based upon fifteen environmental and dietary markers for autism that have been shown to be accurate more than 95% of the time in a study involving more than a thousand individuals. It is believed this test, with early intervention for those found to be at high risk, will allow us to close the door on the autism epidemic thus stopping the development of more children with autism.

Early Prediction
The recently developed screening test has been shown to identify the greatest risk factors for developing autism and it is now being implemented on a limited basis. The symptoms of autism are simply an expression of the various nutritional deficiencies associated with picky eaters or those who fail to eat an adequate diet for good health. The expressions of autism are many and include any or several of the following: toe walking, rocking, tantrums, meltdowns, repetitive speech, lack of eye contact, tics, speech impairment or non-verbal, etc. that pose social problems plus many other symptoms. Some individuals express amazing abilities in math, art, or music but the cause for these talents are not well understood.

The incidence of autism in the U.S. is about 1% of the population or 1 in 88 children and is reported to be increasing at the rate of 10-17% per year. This survey is appropriate in all cases to predict the risk of developing autism. The survey will identify if the individual is in a high risk category even though symptoms are not yet present.

Successful Intervention
Once the survey is completed and the level of risk has been identified, the type and extent of early intervention will depend upon the analysis of the survey results. The appropriate intervention will totally eliminate the risks identified in most cases and at a fraction of the cost associated with searching for a medical solution. The primary treatments generally employed by the medical professions for autism, are for the treatment of medical problems. Autism is not a medical problem but having autism can lead to numerous medical problems.

Autistic Programs – A Wide Range Of Therapy Programs

Autistic Programs

Sadly, a definitive cure for autism, a disabling neurological disorder, has yet to be found. Affected children can grow up undergoing from speech impairment, difficulties in social interaction, abnormal learning and an inability to enjoy several of life’s experiences that we all take for granted. It has continued demonstrated who early diagnosis and intervention can aide to minimize the situation and therapies can submit the unfortunate patient a assured measure of independence and verify him or her how to cope. Autistic Programs

Numerous options are available within a wide variety of therapy programs. Treatment is very much dependent on an individual’s needs and most professionals agree that it is best started no later than the age of two. Sometimes a combination of treatments and programs will yield the best results, but it should be known that the condition generally requires treatment for the life of the patient and the caregiver should maintain flexibility of approach. Autistic Programs

Generally speaking, treatments and therapy programs can be broken down into four distinct areas – behavioral, supplemental, dietary and medical. Some of these represent established programs, whilst others are experimental and it is important to remember that there are a lot of avenues to explore as the chase for the definitive cure goes on. Behavioral therapies deal with modification techniques, to assist the patient to gain job skills and to enable them to function in their environment. Autistic Programs

For example, Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, entails the teaching of skill oriented activities. Patients are rewarded as they learn fun skills and their behavior skills develop. This is a highly structured program, with intensive one-on-one interaction between a child and a therapist. This form of treatment is generally suggested to be the most effective, but many critics think that the approach is somewhat “robotic” and does not encourage the child to be spontaneous in adapting to the real world. Autistic Programs

As opposed to applied behavior analysis, pivotal response therapy is considered to be more natural, taking place in a more relaxed environment, and supporters of this method believe that this approach can trigger a ripple effect to other behaviors, achieving a better all round result. When it comes to supplemental therapies, many people with autism respond favorably to sensory stimulation. Autistic Programs

Patients are encouraged to hold objects with various textures or listen to music, for example. The Tomatis method entails the playing of a loop of music to a child for several hours a day with the goal of improving attention and concentration. Don’t let your love ones suffer anymore!
