Question?: Adhd Lyrics

George asks…

Anyone have study tips for a high-school junior?

I feel so embarrassed asking this, but I don’t know where else to go. How do you study when you’re distracted by everything, but can’t have things completely quiet? Also, what about when your family is zero help (everything I do, good or bad, gets questions from them)? I really need some advice because I’m on my own here. Thanks.

Also, not that I’m making an excuse, but I have ADHD, if that’ll help more with giving advice.

admin answers:

Do a little bit at a time. Break big tasks into small chunks and reward yourself at the end of each with a chocolate or a drink or whatever you’re into. Make checklists each day and tick items off because it helps you to feel a sense of accomplishment even if it’s just to read one page. Study for 10 or 20 minutes and then give yourself a break but study solidly during this time. Know what times of day your brain is at it’s best depending on whether you’re a morning or night person. Use headphones with music that doesn’t have lyrics so you don’t get distracted if it helps. Reward yourself with internet time too if you find yourself distracted by it and keep it shut down while studying. Get into a routine using schedules, checklists and rewards so that you’re training your body and mind.

Question?: Adhd Lyrics

Lisa asks…

What is the song used in NBA games, especially Thunder games, in the beginning and clutch time.?

Its just an instrumental and does not have any lyrics, when played. Please anyone.
EDIT: It’s not Thunderstruck

admin answers:

“Thunderstruck” by ADHD <- little joke

Okay, some other poster told me they play that song. If that isn't it, I can't imagine unless it's The Immigrant Song. You know most of the music is the same.

Question?: Rett Syndrome

James asks…

Im doing a paper on Rett Syndrome and would like to ask some questions.?

1.) How does the problem with the DNA affect the function of the cell?
2.) How is protein synthesis affected?
3.) What symptoms do the victims of the disorder experience?

I am looking to interview someone that knows someone with Rett Syndrome.

Thank you.

admin answers:

1) The MeCP2 gene essentially “shuts off” the cell, after it has done it’s job. With RS, the mutation doesn’t allow this to happen.

2) I started to type this out, but it’s much more informative here:

http://www.rettsyndrome.info/rettcause.html

This will explain it in great detail.

3) Girls with Rett Syndrome often present with repetitive hand movements, which is often called the “hallmark” of RS. My daughter repeatedly “knocks” on one hand with the other.

Most develop normally for the first 6-18 months of life, then begin regressing. Many of them have seizures, and are unable to walk (though, some can). They lose the ability to purposely use their hands, and require care in all areas of life.

I’m going to link my daughter’s video. It gives information about RS. At the end, is our email address. If you still need to interview someone, feel free to send an email.

They changed the music on her video 🙁 However, it’s still useful.

Question?: Schizophrenia

Thomas asks…

How bad is schizophrenia? How bad is it to live with schizophrenia in reality?

I am having trouble sleeping all through the night and I’m afraid that schizophrenia may be setting in…I assume the worst (schizophrenia) instead of anxiety, depression or just plain old insomnia, because I have a family history of severe mental illness…please let me now what onset schizophrenia is or is like, especially if you or a loved one has schizophrenia. thank you.

admin answers:

I’ve known a few people who have had schizophrenia. It is truly a frightening disease. I admit to hearing voices almost every day, which tell things that I don’t want to hear sometimes. They’ll tell me to do things, insult me, and just talk to me sometimes. It happens especially when I am alone. At night it is horrid, especially if I sleep on a floor (goes with a demon I think is taunting me). My pillow and blanket would literally play music. It’s like, if I think about a song, I can hear it. My brother doesn’t think I have it, but I know what I’m going through, not him. But whatever, you know? If you believe you need help for it, go get some if you can. You begin to confuse fantasy and reality, which is very confusing when you’re trying to think back to what happened when people tell you otherwise.

If you are unable to get support from family like I was at first, I can give you a think for support. It’s a wonderful community– the people seem to understand you, even if they don’t have the same disease.

I hope things don’t get worse for you. It’s no fun. Best of luck.

Question?: Autism Signs In Children

Paul asks…

How can I learn sign language and teach it to my brother?

I looked up online that sign language can stimulate an autistic child’s mind and communication. My little brother is 10 and has severe autism and the doctor says he has no chance of speaking. But I want to help him, by teaching him. I learned some words and showed my brother the alphabet on youtube, even though he didn’t pay attention. Is there a better way to teach him? I also want to get my parents and other relatives to learn it. Any ideas?

admin answers:

He should be recieving some sort of education..it should include communication..find out what the school is doing.

an alternative is a PECS system..using pictures *or wriiten words to communicate.

You don’t need to learn actual siagn language at this point.

You can look up the individual words as you need them

start with some basics eat, drink (or a specific drink water, milk), bathroom, favorite toys like ball, music

be prepared to work on sick/pain when he is actually hurt

depending in his ability you may need to work on one at a time or a small group of 2-3

to start try ball (if he likes ball)
show him the ball
shown him the sign
take his hands and help him make the sign
give him the ball

Question?: Autism Symptoms In 3 Year Old

Susan asks…

Child who fixates on an idea/object and will stay with it for HOURS?

I am a preschool teacher and I have a 3 year old who is constantly unfocused in class. She will fixate on something, today it was princesses, and she will NOT stop talking about it or asking questions about it. We play music throughout the day and she’ll fixate on “something being inside the radio.” Is this a condition or a symptom of something more serious? Help/suggestions appreciated.

admin answers:

I could possibly be a sign of autism but could just be that she’s inquisitive. Depends if she has any other problems such as behavioral and being ‘behind’ compared to other children. A little boy I know has autism and they spotted it early on in nursery b/c he just wasn’t keeping up with the other kids development wise and was just a little ‘different’ than the others but luckily it is only mild so he still remains in mainstream school. This could be the case for this little girl, what you’re describing is certainly one of the autistic traits but all kids differ so best thing to do would be just to keep an eye on her and if you have any further concerns then take it down the official route to voice your concerns.

Question?: Adhd Lyrics

Mark asks…

people with ADHD: do you have a hard time focusing on music?

For instance, do you have a hard time focusing on what the singer is saying? I find it difficult to actually focus on that, I find myself googling the lyrics to almost every song that I listen to – just so I can understand what the singer is saying.

admin answers:

I have a hard time focusing on anything. : (
