Question?: Autism Symptoms In Teenagers

Linda asks…

gluten and cassien free diet for autistic children?

I have heard that a gluten and casein free diet helps the symptoms of autism, has anyone tried it with positive results?

admin answers:

A version of gluten and casein diet is called the “whole plant based diet.” It shuns excess oils, fats, sugars, salt, and processed ingredients. The food is prepared from whole plant based ingredients rather than being commercially processed. Diet drinks contain aspartame which is deleterious to health.

Even with “healthy” children, this diet results in improvements in health and behaviors. Sadly, the AMA fights successful and inexpensive alternative treatments that do not involve drugs. This way of eating has been proven to reduce risks of vascular disease, cancer, diabetes, gout, osteoporosis, and many other diseases that relate to diet. Some dementias are related to vascular health, and this diet helps this condition. Your family will be more alert and alive by eating this way. The book “Fasting and Eating for Health” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman explains some of this. Many people claim that the mercury used as a preservative in vaccinations is to blame of autism, however, I don’t know the details. If the blood work shows heavy metals, chelation treatment may help. My wife and I suffered some heavy metal poisoning and we recovered through careful diet planning.

To learn more, check out a book from your library by one of the following authors: Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and Dr. John McDougall.

I personally avoid all dairy products and bread products. Avoiding genetically modified ingredients is critical. Prior to this diet, I was one meal away from heart attack. Now, I’m measurably healthier than I was when I was a teenager. My blood work is perfect.

Question?: Autism Symptoms In 3 Year Old

Maria asks…

My husband brother is autistic. How big is the chance for us to have a child with autism?

His father always blamed a vaccine the child received when he was a child, around 2 years old, because was after that that the child presented the symptoms. But medical studies today say that that’s the age that autism is generally discovered, so I think it could be a coincidence. His father was an alcoholic so, I don’t know if that could contribute to the child’s problem.

admin answers:

Drunks are addicts–they’re not stupid. Your father in law is right–vaccines can cause “autism”. They did here.

No one in my husbands family or mine for 5 generations back has had anything remotely like “autism”. Of course “autism” didn’t exist until the 1930s after this country began vaccinating. And none of my ancestors ever received 36 vaccines before they were 3 either. My son is no longer has “autism”. Most “autism” is heavy metal/mercury poisoning (they called it Pinks disease in the 30s, and “Alzheimer’s” in adults) Get rid of the mercury, and the “autism” disappears. Of course, I would recommend you prevent it as opposed to recovering your child from it–it’s no picnic.

For our pal here that says there’s no proof, check out these recovered kids:

Question?: Adhd In Adults

Mark asks…

Are there natural cures for attention deficit disorder?

Home remedies, homeopathic medicine, vitamins/minerals. Anything that you can get at a health food or vitamin specialty store to lessen the effects of adhd in adults?

This is for someone who suspects having the disorder (and has relatives that definitely have adhd) but does not have insurance to cover the cost of diagnostics and treatment

admin answers:

There have actually been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn’t really looked at closely for this, but I wasn’t surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health. There was a good article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-391503/Fish-oil-calms-children-better-Ritalin.html that covers some of this as well.
Give it a try… It’s economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that’s currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren’t sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

There are also a lot of people who have found some relief from limiting sugar, artificial colors/flavorings, and going with less (or no) processed food to take away those possible causes as well. From research I’ve done, Fish Oil tends to help more, but both work even better together. Good luck and I hope I helped!

Preventing Autism: Cheap, Simple and EFFECTIVE

There is a simple, cheap, and effective form of Autism Prevention therapy. Here it is:

Less than 1% of all doctors in the USA are even aware that vitamin C takes all minerals, including heavy metals out of the body. It’s not true chelation, as vitamin C combines metabolically, but it’s the same result. Take out all, and put back in what is needed. Most doctors even believe that the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of 75 mg is correct for good health, when 4000 mg is the RDA for a 150 pound ape. (Apes are more valuable it seems.)

Mineral analysis of people who use 2000-5000 mg (2-5 grams) per day of vitamin C for a year or so show heavy metals toxicity so low it is immeasurable. We have an epidemic of autism, mostly caused by mercury, aluminum, and/or lead toxicity. This toxicity is increasing in our culture and pregnant women are more and more subject to this environmental poisoning. This is creating infant toxicity before birth such that the infant liver may be near toxic levels, and the addition of vaccines using these preservatives overloads the infant liver and actually kills brain cells. A simple and cheap prevention is to have any pregnant woman start on 4 grams per day of cheap vitamin C (less than $30 for 9 months supply at Costco). If she takes 2 1000 mg tablets at breakfast and 2 more at dinner, and then takes pre-natal vitamins and vitamins at lunch, the “shared” blood stream of mother and fetus will be gradually cleared of mercury and other heavy metals.

This allows the birth of a baby that is not near toxic levels in that tiny liver, and now is able to handle further toxic loads after entering the world. Autism is a “bankruptcy” disease to families. Instead of spending millions on “cure”, let’s spend a small amount on prevention. But doctors need to be re-educated about vitamin C. Big Pharma has done a job with their refutation of Linus Pauling, and the other scientists work below.

These include Frederick R. Klenner. http://www.doctoryourself.com/vitaminc2.html by Andrew Saulas, the only psychologist in the Orthomolecular Medical Society for many years and a personal friend of Abram Hoffer and Carl Pfeiffer. Dr. Bate has personally taken 4 grams per day of vitamin C (as above), for a number of years, my recent mineral analysis shows the only heavy metals even measurable are aluminum and arsenic, and both are extremely low on the toxic level. (His wife cooks with aluminum, and we get fresh vegetables from possibly insecticide sprayed fields.)

He has also used vitamin C in my former practice to solve many cases of schizophrenia caused by excessive copper using 10 grams per day of vitamin C very successfully. These cases included both the Wilson’s family gene, and some women that the birth control pill had been involved in the copper uptake. He has also successfully used vitamin C to push out mercury in cases of depression. This simple and cheap therapy has the potential to stop the current epidemic of autism, and at least bring it back to the 1 case in 10,000, instead of the current 1 in less than 150. Also, simple to test the validity. Find 100-1000 recently pregnant women, and start this regimen. If less than 6 months left in pregnancy, go to 3 grams per dose, etc.

Facts About Symptoms of Autism

The neural development disorder that are characterized by impaired communication, repetitive and restrictive behavior, and social interaction is known as Autism. Normally the symptoms of Autism or the disorder’s warning signs begin before the child has reached three years of age. The disorder affects the processing of information in the brain because it changes how a person’s nerve cells and their synapses connect with one another and then organize themselves. Unfortunately, the way in which this occurs is not understood.

In the Autism Spectrum, Autism is one of the three disorders that it covers. Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) are the other two that are components of the spectrum. PDD-NOS is typically diagnosed when the characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome or Autism are not present. Although the genetics involved in Autism are extremely complex in nature, it isn’t clear as to whether or not Autism Spectrum Disorders are rare mutations or rare combinations of genetic variations.

In rare occurrences, the symptoms of Autism are strongly related to genetic agents that are responsible for birth defects. Additionally, there are numerous controversies that surround environmental issues including childhood vaccines, heavy metals, and pesticides. Interestingly enough, the hypothesis regarding the vaccine issue is biologically implausible and lacks any psychological or scientific evidence. In recent reports published by the CDC, they estimate that roughly 1 out of every 100 children have the symptoms of Autism.

Since the 1980’s when Autism became a common concern of the medical and psychological communities, the increase in the number of diagnoses of the disorder have increased exponentially. Naturally, this is due in part to changes and updates where current diagnostic practices are concerned. However, whether or not it can be considered prevalent in US society is the source of numerous debates. What is known for sure is that parents typically notice the symptoms of Autism within the first two years of the child’s life.

The symptoms of Autism will vary greatly from one individual to the next. However, there are specific core symptoms that every individual who is suffering with autism have in common. These include:

Limited interests in normal activities or the way in which they play – a need for an established routine, an unusual focus on certain objects or toys, and the preoccupation of specific topics or subject matter

Non-verbal and verbal communication – delay in or a lack of learning how to talk, difficulty understanding the perspective of those listening to them, problems engaging in meaningful conversation, and a repetitive or stereotyped use of language

Social interaction and relationships – failure to establish friendships or relationships with their peers; lack of empathy; lack of interest where sharing achievements, enjoyment, or interests with others is concerned

As a parent, you need to be compiling a list of any unusual behavior while observing your child on a regular basis if you are concerned that they are showing the symptoms of Autism mentioned above. In so doing, when you discuss these issues with your child’s pediatrician, family physician, or are referred by either to a specialist to determine if Autism is present, this will help considerably.

Autism – What Causes Autism and How Can You Prevent It

Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder that causes delays in social interaction, language as used in social communication, and/or imaginative play, that originates prior to 3 years of age, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

What causes Autism? This question is still answered with open-ended possibilities. Autism in laymen terms is an otherwise healthy person that cannot either speak in a given language format, interact with others in a social setting, or becomes emotionally triggered by very normal functions of others around them.

Autism studies have found a distinctive link with people diagnosed with autism and their unusually high heavy metal content in their blood. Mercury and lead seem to read high in their blood count. The body’s ability to defuse or expunge certain metals causes a build up or high concentration of these metals and the link suggests that this build up of heavy metals seems to block certain social solving skills in the brain.

Retention of these heavy metals in the body creates a severe imbalance in the ratio of active to inactive glutathione, the body’s most important tool for detoxifying and excreting metals. Glutathione works as an antioxidant, which regulates the potentially destructive process of oxidative stress caused both by normal metabolism and environmental contaminants. Autistic children showed a significant impairment in every one of five measurements of the body’s ability to maintain a healthy glutathione defense.

Autism has increased 10-fold from 6 in 10,000 in the 1980s, to about 60 in 10,000 today. Boys are higher candidates than girls of having autism. Since the discovery link of heavy metals in autistic people, there are some studies that suggest that if you can reduce or aid in expunging metal content from the body through the skin’s pores using a special cream, testing has shown to produce some very significant, almost immediate results.

So how does these heavy metals get into the body? One very elusive method that we seldom hear about is through vaccines. The preservatives that were placed in the vaccines were found to have adverse affects that could account for some of this metal build up. As of 2002 these preservatives have been removed.

Our food supply is also a big contributor of metals. Fish and shellfish can contain high levels of mercury. Women would are of child bearing age are warned to avoid these foods if they are anticipating pregnancy. Green leafy plants can retain levels of lead from the soil. So, basically you can come in contact with several ways of ingesting these offensive metals.

The intake is not as much the problem, as the releasing of these essential minerals. If a person cannot release these minerals, then the build-up appears to cause or at least contribute to the symptoms of autism. Autism is not something to be ashamed of, understand that your child is relying on you to get the help they need asap, for a more responsive life.

Bottom line is to have a child tested as soon as you notice certain behavioral problems that just aren’t normal. For instance,

– autistic children will avoid eye to eye contact

– they don’t interact with other children well, they like playing alone

– they don’t form words, or mimic your coaching words

– they can be sensitive to normal sounds, like that of a vacuum cleaner

– they tend to want to line up there toys in straight lines and become upset if they are rearranged

– they can indicate they are hungry, yet when food is given, they reject it

– they may want an item but not accept it from you by hand, they prefer to pick it up themselves when they decide the time is right

While some of these symptoms, done separately, may not suggest autism, it’s the collection of a larger group of items listed that tend to send signals that testing would be advised. When asking your doctor if they think your child is okay or normal, please alert the doctor to have your child tested for high levels of heavy metals and explain some of the child’s odd mannerisms. Doctors don’t have the same perceptions as you simply from a doctor’s visit. Being more verbal with your concerns for your child as soon as you notice their different behaviors could greatly improve by treatments as early as possible.

Doctors in general do not consider testing for autism before the age of 3 years, but if you have seen some of the behaviors listed above, remember, you can suggest to the doctor to do some testing for autism earlier than your child’s 3rd birthday.

President Bush recently signed the Combating Autism Act of 2006 bill on December 19, 2006. This bill, widely applauded by autism activists groups, authorizes nearly $1 billion over the next five years to combat autism through research, screening, early detection and early intervention. The new legislation will increase federal spending on autism by at least fifty percent. Please support their efforts whenever and wherever possible.

Consider some of the Most Effective Treatment methods for Autism

Autism can’t be cured but there are methods that can help autistic people to lead mostly normal lives. Because there are many causes and symptoms of autism, there is no one best way to treat it. In the most severe cases, the only thing doctors can do is manage the troubling symptoms. It is possible for those with less severe autism to learn some necessary skills to interact with others. In some cases, the following treatments have been very helpful.

One highly disputed ways to take care of autism is chelation therapy. This is predicated on the thesis that autism occurs, at least in some cases, by toxins in the environment, eminently heavy metals like mercury. Chelation therapy embraces the use of medical aids that help the body free itself from these adverse components. This is generally done with IV injections of amino acids, in addition to dietary fundamentals to assist in the recovery progression.

This is a manner that people think is a back-up, and conventional researchers do not rely on it. Furthermore, there have been reports of autistic people become ill or even dying from the side effects of this process. Anyone who is tossing around the idea of this healing process is advised to learn about it first and then proceed with admonition. Play therapy is an autism treatment that is effective in some cases. Autistic kids don’t have the same capacity for sports and games that non-autistic kids have. This has to do with their difficulty in communicating and interacting with others. It is also because autistic children process cues differently and they have a difficult time figuring out concepts like “playing”. Play therapy’s goal is to teach an autistic child how to play–it begins with simple things that are already fascinating to the child. The goal is to use a child’s existing interests and coax him or her into playing socially with others who are also interested in that same idea or object. While play therapy may not get an autistic child to play “normally” that child’s abilities can often be greatly improved.

For people with Asperger’s Syndrome, who are able to function fairly normally, certain types of treatment are possible that wouldn’t be for those with more severe types of autism. For people with Asperger’s Syndrome, who can function in a normal manner, specific kinds of treatment are probable that may not be for those that have more serious types of autism. For example, people with Asperger’s can often be helped by Cognitive Behavior Therapy, a way of training someone to develop more positive and helpful ways of behaving. In the case of autism, it can be helpful to learn new social skills and to learn how to act in a way that others do not think is strange. Therapy can make autistic people who act normally to be knowledgeable about how to behave in normal situations.

It can be really hard to handle autism, specifically when someone in your family has this disorder. Some of the administering techniques shared above might be pragmatic, and with the range of research being done, we can be hopeful that new and more sufficient methods will be introduced soon.

Looking at 3 Techniques for Treating Autism

There are many strategies for treating autism. Regrettably, there is not just one approach that can entirely get rid of autism, although there are a lot of different healing options that can help with the various manifestations and assist the person stricken with autism to communicated better. Considering the amount of different kinds of autism, the same therapeutic techniques won’t work ideally for every individual. The methods used to treat autism that we’ll be discussing here have been used successfully, though in some cases they are controversial.

One of the most controversial treatments for autism is chelation therapy. This is derived from the concept that autism takes place, at least in some situations, from toxins in the air, particularly from heavy metals like mercury. Chelation therapy embraces the use of medical aids that help the body free itself from these adverse components. This is usually done with IV injections of amino acids, and there are also dietary requirements to help the healing process.

This is a manner that people think is a back-up, and conventional researchers do not rely on it. What’s more, there have been stories of autistic people who have become sick or even died from the side effects of this technique. Anyone considering this course of treatment is advised to do research and proceed with caution.

Although a majority of expert say that autism cannot be cured, there is at least one program that says it can teach autistic people to live regular lives. This program is called Son-Rise and it uses plenty of innovative strategies to show autistic kids how to learn things and be around other people. This program is called Son-Rise and it works by using many different methods to explain to autistic children how to learn and socialize with other people. This program has a very useful concept in that it believes that a child can be happy and fit in with society, no matter how he or she originally started in life. This is a very debated position, because the main viewpoint about autism is that most programs can only manage the symptoms . The Son-Rise program has many good ideas set in place, but it is very time consuming and expensive for those involved, which makes it not a good fit for many people. However, it might hold the clue for how to treat autism.

For instance, those with Asperger’s can usually be helped with cognitive Behavior Therapy, which is a way to train people to have better and positive behaviour. In the case of autism, it can be helpful to learn new social skills, and to learn how to act in ways that others don’t find strange or off-putting. Therapy can help autistic people who function well recognize how they are wanted to act in everyday situations. New treatments for autism are proposed often as the research continues. The biggest difficulty in finding a universal treatment for autism is that no one is sure what causes it. In most cases, treatments for autism are aimed at giving children basic skills that enable them to learn, play and interact better than they otherwise could. These are only a few of the autism treatments currently in use.

Mercury is likely to be absorbed by the body if it is presented as ethyl mercury that are usually used in thimerosal, preservatives, and additives and even in pediatric vaccines.

Hence to get rid of the mercury, it appears that it is necessary to do a heavy metal detox or a mercury detox. There are a lot of medications that can aid in heavy metal detox. DMSA is one of the most common FDA-approved drugs to treat individuals who need heavy metal detox. It contains mixed disulfide and cysteine that forms a water-soluble chelating agent that can effectively excrete lead content through urination. DMSA may be deemed as an effective heavy metal detox agent but there are known side effects that move a lot of physicians not to recommend it to autistic children.

Some of the reported side effects of DMSA are self-stimming, seizures and some dysfunction of the central nervous system. Individuals with autism may or may not show these side effects because as mentioned earlier, it’s always a case-to-case basis. Another option for heavy metal detox is the intake of DMPS.
