Mandy asks…

Does AD-HD get passed down generation to generation or can it just happen?

I just took a adhd test like thing, and so far im getting tested positive, does adhd just get passed down from generation to generation, or can it just happen like oh look you have adhd but not alot of people in your family have it.

admin answers:

Well, It depends. If people in your family have ADD or ADHD, you are more likely to get it.

My grandfather has ADD, my dad has ADHD, and I have ADHD.

ADHD is a mental issue, you can’t just tell by looking at a person that they have it.

Question?: Adhd Test

Ken asks…

How can you tell if an autistic child is also ADHD?

I have an 8 yr old son who is autistic and ADHD also runs in my family. Basically it seems ADHD and some form of the autism spectrum does as my nieces and nephew had one or both and my daughter is ADHD with testing for aspergers goin on. How can I get my son tested for adhd since he is non-communicative?

admin answers:

ADHD is commonly misdiagnosed with people that have Asperger’s Syndrome. The theory isn’t the change of mind but the fact that an obsessive mind causes them to move onto other subjects. One thing will cause another thought and so forth. This is not ADHD but doctors are more interested in prescribing Ritalin since this is an income stream for them. I would tell your school and they can test him or I would call a psychologist that specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders and they will diagnose.

Question?: Adhd Test

David asks…

My son who is in class 5 is struggling in school and the teacher told us that he should be checked for ADHD?

Can you tell me about ADHD testing. How effective is the test? if he has ADHD is there any solution without medication?

admin answers:

Amik, there is no surefire way to diagnosing ADHD. But doctors with proper training in handling ADHD will be able to perform a proper diagnosis. Don’t go to just any doctor because most of them don’t know nuts about ADHD and you could end up with a wrong diagnosis, which can be dangerous. Some experts believe that if a child has say, bipolar disorder, but he is diagnosed as having ADHD and thus given stimulant medication, the poor victim could become manic, depressed or even suicidal. So be careful when choosing doctors. Ask around your circle of friends, relatives or neighbours who might know of a good one.

In the meantime, read up as much as you can on ADHD so that you will be able to make informed decisions later on. You can get excellent info from here:=>

Michael asks…

How much does ADHD testing cost in Canada?

I was told by my doctor i should see a specialist for ADHD. The testing however is not covered by OHIP apparently. Does anyone know how much these tests will cost?

Thanks

admin answers:

Did your doctor give you the name of the specialist? If you have the specialist’s name, just call the office and ask them. That’s the easiest way to find out, and you’ll know the cost.

Helen asks…

Does anyone have a gifted child misdiagnosed with ADHD first?

My son was first diagnosed with ADHD, he passed the ADHD test with perfectly, now they’re saying he could possibly be gifted. Just wanting a little insight.

admin answers:

My daughter is gifted and it was suggested by one teacher to assess her need for medication. This teacher would not identify why exactly she thought that, and my dr had no concerns. In 2nd grade she was tested and has a fairly high iq of 135 and is in gifted class. Since she has been challenged she is much happier in school.

Question?: Adhd Test

Donna asks…

How do I get tested for ADHD testing?

would like to inquire about ADHD testing. While my father was in the military, I was diagnosed at the age of six with ADHD and put on medication around 11 or 12. After my father discharged from the military, my medical records were lost. I am now seeking to reestablish the proper medical documentation of the diagnosis. What are the costs involved and time commitment to be retested? Any information you may provide would be greatly appreciated.

admin answers:

Have a reputable psychologist/psychiatrist perform an evaluation. There are many things that can mimic ADHD. It is a complex disorder.

Question?: Adhd Test

Mandy asks…

is it possible to do too poorly on an adhd test?

i took an adhd test a couple days ago. what happens if i do TOO poorly on it? this is a serious question.

admin answers:

You can’t do poorly in an ADHD test. ADHD test is not like an exam at school. Maybe the word test is not the right word – ADHD screening or ADHD diagnosis may be more accurate. The objective of the ADHD test, along with other factor, is to diagnose if you have ADHD.

Most importantly. Don’t believe anyone who tells you that ADHD is a bad thing. ADHD could be the best thing that happens to you. It also means that you might be having problem focusing at school because your mind wanders around, which is not a bad thing in itself. If you have ADHD, this is something you will need to learn to handle.

Be cool, you are in a great company.
