Question?: Autism Symptoms In 3 Year Old

William asks…

What Diseases could these symptoms be from?

My Girlfriend’s 2nd cousins. Here is the background. She had birth to 2 boys. The younger of the two passed away at about the age of 3 months. Autopsy results have only concluded heart and Kidney failure, even from specialists. The older brother is now 2 years old. He has similar symptoms but appears to have them less severe. One original Diagnosis was Bruton’s Disease which is an immune deficiency condition but this was later dismissed. He is very limited in his speech and can not walk on his own but has recently been able to stand with the help of an object. He also suffers from seizures but medication has helped. In appearance he seems to be normal and shows no obvious signs of retardation. He has seen specialists and his younger brother has been autopsied and studied by specialists but there is still no diagnosis. Thought I might give this a try.

Betty asks…

How do i know if my 2 year old has autism?

I am curious because since he turned 2 his speech development has slowed down tremendously, he pretty much knows mommy, dada, ball, and bye, and will continually repeat them. I have been doing some of my own research but it is hard for me to really know because of the fact that i am his mother. He has a younger brother who turned 1 in August and at first his doctor said that it was because of his brother that he wasnt talking, but the 1 year old says more than my 2 year old, i just dont understand. If anybody can help me it would be greatly appreciated!

School districts do not assess children under the age of 3 years old so that is not an option yet. I also would not rely to heavily on a peditrician as very few are aware of the early signs and symptoms of autism and will say things like it will come with time or he is just a boy so he is a late talker etc. Besides language what are your other concerns. Does he use the limited language he has functionally? When he syas ball is it becaue he sees a ball or wants a ball? A child can have a simple language delay that is easy to fix and is usually totally fixable. Signs of autism include not playing with toys appropriately, not using gestures, facial expressions to communicate, not showing shared enjoyement or joint attention. When your child is playing with his favorite toy does he look at you to see if you are watching? If something funny, silly or scary happens does he look at your face to see your reaction? IF you play peek a boo or some similar game does he try to get you to do it again or do more of something fun. Also you can look for stereotypic behavior, hand flapping rocking, spinning objects over and over again, watching just the wheels on the car or truck instead of the whole toy?
These kind of social pragmatic indicators are more important for discerning autism compared to perhaps a simple speech delay. IT is not too early to investigate speech services. A speech person who specializes in working with young children does speech all with toys on the floor and play based so the kids don’t know they are in therapy and they give you wonderful ideas about how to bring out language in your child in daily activities and routines in order to further develop speech. Seek out other professionals. A developmental pediatrician or psychologist might be able to do a formal assessment. NOw adays many area have autism clinics at the children’s hospital or through MR/DD service providers taht serve children with disabilties birth through death. Where I live it is called the regional center but there are similar providers with different names depending where you live. Good luck.

Rapid breathing
and Wheezing.

He is 3 years old and has high functioning autism if that helps.

and of course all the cold symptoms. (stuffy nose, etc)

It sounds like it could be the flu, or possibly worse, like pneumonia. I suggest you go straight to the doctor. It’s common for autistic people to get pneumonia.

Maria asks…

My husband brother is autistic. How big is the chance for us to have a child with autism?

His father always blamed a vaccine the child received when he was a child, around 2 years old, because was after that that the child presented the symptoms. But medical studies today say that that’s the age that autism is generally discovered, so I think it could be a coincidence. His father was an alcoholic so, I don’t know if that could contribute to the child’s problem.

admin answers:

Drunks are addicts–they’re not stupid. Your father in law is right–vaccines can cause “autism”. They did here.

No one in my husbands family or mine for 5 generations back has had anything remotely like “autism”. Of course “autism” didn’t exist until the 1930s after this country began vaccinating. And none of my ancestors ever received 36 vaccines before they were 3 either. My son is no longer has “autism”. Most “autism” is heavy metal/mercury poisoning (they called it Pinks disease in the 30s, and “Alzheimer’s” in adults) Get rid of the mercury, and the “autism” disappears. Of course, I would recommend you prevent it as opposed to recovering your child from it–it’s no picnic.

For our pal here that says there’s no proof, check out these recovered kids:

Before you decide to inject heavy metals (Hg & Al) into your child, you might want to read here:

Edit: Studies? Who pays for these “studies”? Pharma, that’s who. What do I have to gain here? Nada.

Question?: Autism Symptoms In 3 Year Old

Susan asks…

Child who fixates on an idea/object and will stay with it for HOURS?

I am a preschool teacher and I have a 3 year old who is constantly unfocused in class. She will fixate on something, today it was princesses, and she will NOT stop talking about it or asking questions about it. We play music throughout the day and she’ll fixate on “something being inside the radio.” Is this a condition or a symptom of something more serious? Help/suggestions appreciated.

admin answers:

I could possibly be a sign of autism but could just be that she’s inquisitive. Depends if she has any other problems such as behavioral and being ‘behind’ compared to other children. A little boy I know has autism and they spotted it early on in nursery b/c he just wasn’t keeping up with the other kids development wise and was just a little ‘different’ than the others but luckily it is only mild so he still remains in mainstream school. This could be the case for this little girl, what you’re describing is certainly one of the autistic traits but all kids differ so best thing to do would be just to keep an eye on her and if you have any further concerns then take it down the official route to voice your concerns.

Daniel asks…

How long does it take to make a proper autism evaluation?

My 4 year old brother has gone to 3 evaluations (all of which have lasted no more than a half hour) and has been diagnosed with a minor, minor case of autism. I really don’t think this is enough time to get to know a child and make a proper diagnosis.

admin answers:

Sorry, but some can diagnose in 5 minutes. Usually, they take a few hours to do special testing, ask questions, observe, etc. So they can list all the reasons why. But, if a child walks in a counselor’s office, ignores everyone, repeatedly spins objects, and has speech problems, on top of the parents listing all the symptoms, I am sure experienced counselors will feel confident in their diagnosis.

Question?: Autism Symptoms In 3 Year Old

Laura asks…

Does anyone know of a website or resource where you can find out what chemicals are known to cause autism?

My 3 year old son may be diagnosed with a mild form of autism soon (we were warned today that that’s what the signs point to). There is also groundwater contamination in our neighborhood of chemicals known to rise through the ground and get trapped in the house. Does anyone know where I can find more information? I’ve researched the specific chemical (and those resources don’t seem to say anything about autism), so I was hoping to research the autism end instead.

admin answers:

You should start at the largest organization for autism’s website. Http://www.autism-society.org/ From here, you could find local support groups for autism and many of them have forums on the web…you should pose your question to them also.
I’ve never heard anything about chemicals causing autism, but I have heard that lead can cause autism-like symptoms. Best wishes to you.
